There are Many Paths to Sustainability

About the MA Program

Ripples

Ready to create impact — in sustainable design? We’re offering three sustainability-focused courses. One this summer and two for the Fall.

If you’re considering joining our fully online MA in Sustainable Design program, this it is a good chance to engage with us and see what it’s like to learn online.  If not, it’s a wonderful way to learn more about sustainability!

Summer 2022

Designing Behavioral Change for Sustainability

Course Description

For societies to reach a sustainable future, individuals will need to adjust their behavior to meet the challenge. This course examines the leverage points that can be used to trigger desired changes in behavior.

Using design thinking, behavior design, persuasive design, and tactics for effective communication, explore how to identify resistance factors and motivators for change in order to design inspiring experiences that truly trigger action.

This is a 4-week no-credit course. Class starts July 22.

Fall 2022

Systems Thinking

Course Description

This course provides students with the tools required to succeed in today’s dynamic market and a world of uncertainty.

We are transitioning from the age of design for the part to the age of design for the whole. Systems thinking, languages of design, and product life cycles are integrated and they form the solid foundation for innovative products. Actionable theory is absorbed through market-specific projects.

This is a graduate level class and is part of MCAD’s Master of Arts in Sustainable Design.

Class starts Monday, August 29, 2022-Friday, December 16 2022

Visual Communication for Sustainability

Course Description

In this course students learn about the growing field of information design and critically evaluate how it relates to communicating sustainability.

We are increasingly surrounded by data, and information is collected and categorized in the smallest of increments. Data on sustainability is no exception. How do we use and present data in a way that is relevant for consumers? Customized project-based assignments take students deeper into real-life situations.

This is a graduate level class and is part of MCAD’s Master of Arts in Sustainable Design.

Class starts Monday, August 29, 2022-Friday, December 16 2022
